Letting agents urged to join Ombudsman Services

Letting agents urged to join Ombudsman Services
Letting agents have been urged to offer an improved standard of customer service for people that wish to rent and let homes. In order to maintain standards, it is recommended that they become members of the Ombudsman Services.
We are pleased to say that Applegate are members of the Property Ombudsman Service and have been for a number of years. We feel that it is our obligation to provide excellent customer service and by being a member it aids us with maintaining our already excellent services.
The Ombudsman Services, which handles complaints about the energy, communications, property and copyright licensing sectors, has called for a review of the buy-to-let sector.
Chief Ombudsman Lewis Shand Smith commented that tenants “deserve high quality standards” and so he encouraged agencies that are members of the National Approved Letting Scheme (NALS) to join Ombudsman Services.
NALS is an independent licensing scheme that is designed to help raise standards in the private rented sector.
Mr Shand Smith said: “NALS licensed agents which join our scheme … will be making a clear statement that they are professional firms, which really care about the standard of service provided.”
Chief executive of NALS Isobel Thomson claimed “the least” tenants and landlords should expect is that their letting agent is a member of the scheme.
