One in four tenants left waiting for repairs

One in four tenants left waiting for repairs
One in four tenants have been forced to wait at least a week for repairs such as fixing a broken boiler or blocked pipe to be completed.
This is according to new research from HomeServe, which found a third of renters have faced a home emergency at some point during the past 12 months.
Central heating faults are the most common problem, accounting for 15 per cent of incidents, followed by broken boilers (14 per cent), blocked sinks (13 per cent) and leaking taps (seven per cent).
Some 23 per cent of tenants said they have had to wait for more than a week for issues such as this to be solved. In light of this, HomeServe estimated there are 250,000 tenants who have withheld their rent and arranged for repairs to be carried out themselves.
Applegate’s figures however are somewhat different to the above findings, due to our efficient customer service and computer system. All incoming complaints are instantly entered on to our database and monitored throughout the process to ensure that the issue has been resolved and the tenant updated on the progress.
